ANQUE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF CHEMISTRY
“CHEMISTRY AND SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT"
Sustainable Development is a concept
that came up in advanced societies and try to harmonize the need to
maintain the grow in the manufacture of goods and services that economic and
social dynamic demands, with the more efficient use of natural resources
which are more limited from day to day, and with the preservation of natural environment.
According
to the Brudtland Comission,
Environment and Development World Comission of
1987, Sustainable
Development is: “To satisfy the needs of the present
without compromising the possibility of future generations to satisfy their
own needs”.
Sustainability is an ethic and a
socio-economic imperative nowadays. This
imperative proposes a conception of the
science, the technique and the industry compatible with the preservation of the
environment. The
environmental effects and impacts are considered in their wider meanings: in
the space, from local to global effects, and in the time, from
manufacturing to the final destiny of the consumed goods, considering also
its recyclability.
Chemistry and
Chemical Engineering
can contribute to sustainability because they are in good conditions to
supply clean technologies and new products and, at the same time, they have
tools to monitor and interpret the influence of technological activities on
the future of our planet. An example of this, are the topics, that
without being exhaustives, have been included in the programme of this
congress.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHEMISTS OF SPAIN
(ANQUE)
The National Association of Chemists of Spain
(ANQUE) was founded in 1946. It updates its statutes in 1990. Its aims
are the promotion of the Chemistry Science & Technology.
ANQUE has
more than 11,000 members in Spain, being present in
all the Autonomous Regions, with Regional Delegations, Territorial
Associations and Autonomous Associations. ANQUE publishes, in collaboration
with the General Council of Official Associations of Chemists, the magazine
"Chemistry and Industry", with a bimonthly (every two months) print run of 14,000 copies. Since
1991, ANQUE is a member of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering
and FECS (nowadays EuCheMS).
ANQUE, in its more than 50 years of
life, has obtained a relevant experience in the organization of all
type of activities of diffusion and social communication of the Chemistry Science
and Technology, in the support of R+D+I activities and in the continuous
training of technical and professional people. Among their support to R+D+I
activities is the organization of five International Congresses and eleven
National Congresses, and the organization in collaboration with the European Federation of
Chemical Engineering (EFCE) of the 4th European Congress of Chemical
Engineering (ECCE-4) held in Granada (Spain) in september 2003, in which
about 1,000 participants
from 56 countries presented
more than 1,300 communications.
