Research fields:

Design, fabrication, modification and characterization of different types of membranes

  • Dense, porous, symmetric or asymmetric membranes
  • Flat-sheet, hollow fiber or nano-fibrous membranes
  • Modification: Interfacial polymerization, nano-composites, functionalized nano-additives, etc.
  • Characterization: Different techniques (SEM-EDS, AFM, XRD, FTIR-ATR, XPS, DSC, contact angle measurement, porosity, pore size, gas and liquid permeabilities, etc.
  • Design and preparation of membrane modules: plate and frame, spiral wound, tubular, capillary and hollow fiber membrane modules for different separation processes.

Membrane Processes

  • Reverse osmosis (RO), forward osmosis (FO), nanofiltration (NF), ultrafiltration (UF), microfiltration (MF), membrane distillation (MD), pervaporation (PV), etc.

Applications: desalination, wastewater treatment, concentration of different solutes, gas and liquid separations, etc.

Biopolymers

  • Nano-composites, nano-fibers, micro-spheres, etc. for biomedical applications.

Renewable energies: thermal collectors and photovoltaic panels technology

  • Solar irradiance measurements, energy storage, energy efficiency and fuel cells.

Transport phenomena, theoretical models and optimization of different processes

  • Statistical experimental designs, Response Surface Methodology (RSM), artificial neuronal network (ANN), etc.

Thermal properties

  • Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity measurements by the transient hot-wire method of nano-fluids, nano-composites and phase change materials (PCMs) (carbon nano-tubes, grafene, hydrocarbons, paraffin, etc.).
